Research & Analysis

We start with listening. Let's get to the detail of audience profiling and narrative assessment using surveys, narrative workshops, and literature reviews.

  • Narrative analysis
  • Audience profiling
  • Survey development and analysis
  • Audience and topic summaries

Example project:

You want to understand what you need to change in your communications about climate in order to engage a particular type of audience.

This service will analyse your existing communications and tell you what stories, actions, and language will work best for your target audience.

What’s involved?

  • A review of all your current communications (narrative analysis).

  • Identifying and understanding your target audience’s current engagement (audience profiling using existing data or conducting topic specific engagement workshops, using existing metrics on engagement, survey and analysis of target audience).

  • Findings presented back to your team for feedback and next steps for engagement (audience and topic summaries).

Next steps:

Equipped with these findings, you will then be able to develop an engagement strategy for your target audience, train the rest of your team in engagement best practice and your new communications guidelines, and begin to develop new content.

Let’s make sure your communications are impactful and foster fruitful conversations. First, we’ll take stock of what it is you can and can’t do  - from what current access to tools and audiences you have, through to your team’s engagement skills and how much time they have to invest in making changes and continuing conversations. Then we’ll develop a plan that makes the best use of your resources and people, with key milestones, clear metrics for measuring success and reviewing our methods.

We’d recommend pairing this with some research and analysis first to make sure you’re heading in the right direction.

  • Key message identification
  • Project timetabling for conversation development
  • Feedback and review process with tailored metrics
  • Team training
  • Support theory of change

Example project:

You’ve got your audience and, crucially, what’s going to get them interested in what you want to talk to them about. You now want to start that conversation and ensure you’ve got a plan for how to contact them and keep them engaged.

This service will help you to identify and craft those key messages, plan your engagement through suitable channels, identify key moments for how those conversations can evolve and ensure that all this is done in a way that matches your team’s resource.

What’s involved?

  • Key message identification based on your audience research and analysis

  • Resource audit

  • Mapping of engagement development

  • Communications plan

  • Tailored engagement metrics and review process developed

  • Handover documents and meetings with engagement team

Next steps:

Kick start the implementation of your engagement strategy with some content that is on message. We can also provide template content that can be reused by your team to ensure consistency and quality in your new narrative style. Review your engagement progress at regular intervals, and deploy new conversational steers to deepen engagement.

Talks & Workshops

Talking about climate is where change begins.

Talks

For the Public

Lydia’s spoken on a whole range of climate-related topics – from risk and resilience, being prepared for the transition, to climate justice, the role of faith communities in change, and the role of emotions in our communication.

For Scientists

Lydia frequently presents about scientists' public communications and how to negotiate the tensions of policy advocacy whilst maintaining credibility and independence (the subject of her PhD thesis). She helps scientists develop confidence in their public engagement and trains them in best practice for audience engagement.

For Organisations:

A ‘Climate Refresh’ is perfect for groups looking to brush up on their climate knowledge, or deep-dive into a particular subject. This is not your standard climate science 101 – we cover what you need to know about the science, but then delve deeper into what this means for risk management, your people, and future planning. Sessions are tailored to your needs, and based on the responses your team provides in a pre-session survey about their knowledge and attitudes about climate-related issues. This is a conversation starter that will quickly bring your team up to date and put you all on the same page. From here, you can then continue your conversations about developing a smarter response to climate and engaging your people.

Workshops

To get the most out of your research and engagement strategies, workshops can be invaluable for harvesting and sharing new knowledge.

Lydia is highly experienced in narrative workshops for research, as well as for training and interactive learning. Workshops are always accessible, fun, and well fuelled with biscuits.

By using multiple methods for gathering information, Lydia is able to tease out thoughts and ideas from each person, avoiding group-think and generating honest responses.

Workshops can be hosted in-person or online. Online workshops make use of familiar and easy-to-use functions in Google Docs or Microsoft Teams (or similar) - no new app downloads are needed (but you may be required to provide your own biscuits).

Ensure your content is accurate and engaging.

Lydia can create bespoke content, or help review existing content. As a scientist, communicator and artist, Lydia brings together a rare set of skills to make sure your content gets it right.

  • Technical report review and synthesis (copy edit and multiple author co-ordination)
  • Infographic design
  • Presentation creation (including in organisation branding)
  • Graph/diagram animation
  • Illustration
  • Short videos (case studies, presentations and interviews)
  • Podcasts
  • Social media campaigns
  • Report design
  • Graphic recording

Original files can be provided, including packaged Adobe suite files, meaning you can reuse and edit content.
