Dr Lydia Messling
About Lydia
"Climate change isn’t a scientific problem, it’s a people one. And therein lies the challenge and exciting opportunities."
With over a decade’s experience in climate change communications and behaviour change, Lydia has first-hand experience of how meaningful engagement is the most influential factor in how much change an organisation can achieve. As a trained environmental scientist and social scientist, her expertise is in translating technical scientific concepts into accessible and relevant resources for non-expert audiences. Skilled in qualitative and quantitative research about engagement with climate-related issues, Lydia designs and delivers targeted behaviour change initiatives and engagement strategies, creating tailor-made capacity building around climate risk and resilience. Always underpinned by academic research, Lydia designs practical implementations that withstand the reality of budget constraints and issue fatigue, whilst encouraging the good work to continue for years to come.

Lydia was a Leverhulme Doctoral Scholar in Climate Justice. Her thesis explored the tensions of climate change scientists engaging in policy advocacy and is available here. She also holds an MRes in Politics and International Relations from the University of Reading, and a BSc in Environmental Science from the University of East Anglia. She is a print maker and oil painter, and owns 27 musical instruments.
